After many years based in London and Israel, Gwyn returned to Wales in 2012 where he set up Gwyn Emberton Dance. He is an associate artist of Aberystwyth Arts Centre and Chapter’s creative producer programme, Coreo Cymru 2015.
2014 saw the creation of My People, Gwyn’s first full-length work created in Wales. It was considered a ‘Soaring debut’ with the duet from the piece The Devil in Eden winning the Ann Sholem and Roy Campbell Moore Award at Wales Dance Platform 2014. My People was also nominated for a Wales Theatre Award in the same category as CAITLIN that Gwyn co-devised, performs and co-produces alongside Eddie Ladd, with Deborah Light directing which won the Best Dance Production. Both My People and CAITLIN were presented as part of Edinburgh Festival 2015.
In 2015 Gwyn was commissioned by theatre company DeOscuro to create a duet for two men for TRIPTYCH about ex-service personnel who has suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
During autumn 2014 Gwyn was part of artist led and cross border project iCoDaCo (International Contemporary Dance Collective) with artists Israel Aloni, Ido Batash and Lee Brummer. The project saw Gwyn’s work performed in theatres in Sweden, Israel and Wales.
Gwyn has danced with many of the UK leading choreographers such as Akram Khan, Matthew Bourne, Jasmin Vardimon and with Scottish Dance Theatre, also spending three years working with Inbal Pinto in Tel Aviv, Israel. He also recently performed in Judith Roberts’s Macbeth and with Karol Cysewski.
As rehearsal director, Gwyn has worked with Russell Maliphant and Sadhana Dance Companies and has taught at The Place, Greenwich Dance Agency, DanceWorks in London, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Middlesex University, Coventry University, The Urdang Academy and at many international summer schools and academies.
Albert trained classically at the Conservatori Superior de Dansa Illes Balears, and in contemporary at the Conservatori Superior de Dansa de l’Institut del Teatre in Barcelona. He has worked with James Cousins Company, Icosaèdre Dance Compagnie (France), IT Dansa Jove Companyia (Barcelona), and Tanzkompanie Oper Graz (Austria) performing in works by choreographers including Alexander Ekman, Ohad Naharin, Rafael Bonachela, Stijn Celis, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, James Wilton, Natalia Horecna, Itamar Serussi, Tilman O’donnell, Rosana Hribar, Catherine Allard, Marilen Iglesias-Breuker, Jiří Kylián, Luc Petton and Darrel Toulon.
